The Civil Society Alliance, the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement –SUN- in Guatemala: Instance of Consultation and Social Participation –INCOPAS-, is an organ of the National System of Food and Nutrition Security –SINASAN- endorsed by the Food and Nutrition Security Law, Decree 32-2005 and its Regulations Government Agreement 75-2006 and its modifications Government Agreement 100-2008.

It seeks to develop and implement an agenda aimed at the effective application of actions related to the Food and Nutrition Security and to the 1,000-day window of opportunity, as well as the strategy promoted by the Government of Guatemala at the national and local levels.

It seeks to influence as a Civil Society from the ten sectors recognized by law to integrate INCOPAS: Indigenous Peoples, Peasant, Business, Catholic Church, Evangelical Churches, Universities and Social Research Organizations, Union, Non-Governmental Organizations, Women's Organizations, Professional Associations before the different actors, mainly those related to the SAN, to reinforce the investment in nutrition, effectiveness and efficiency of the programs aimed at the care and prevention of all forms of malnutrition, focusing on chronic malnutrition of the mother and child.

Among the actions contemplated by the SUN Movement, the dissemination of a massive communication campaign is established to inform and empower women, adolescents and children in strengthening their capacity to demand health services for mother and child.

  • To provide advice to CONASAN through SESAN regarding the fields of action of the sectors it represents.
  • Promote the participation of the sectors that represent the articulation of actions that allow the implementation of the SAN National Strategic Plan;
  • Advise SESAN in decision-making to address situations or structures of Food and Nutritional Security.
